Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator

A person’s body mass index, or BMI, provides an indication of body fatness. BMI is determined using a mathematical formula based on height and weight. The index tells you whether you are overweight, obese, underweight or normal.

Understand your BMI

– If your BMI is from 25 to 29.9, you are considered overweight.
– If your BMI is 30 or more, you are considered obese.

A criticism of BMI – and this is a substantial issue – is that it does not differentiate between fat, muscle, bone, cartilage and so on. Thus, if you happen to be a body builder with a ripped shape, your BMI would define you as overweight or obese. Still, for sedentary people, it is considered to be a satisfactory measurement tool.
